Sananga
Sananga is a sacred plant medicine used in Amazonian spiritual healing ceremonies. Sananga comes from a shrub called “Apocynaceae” and is found in the Amazon Jungle. This beautiful medicine graces us with the purest energy of Mother Earth which flows into this plant found deep in the jungle. The purity of Earth’s energy in the jungle is healing in and of itself —something many people have never felt due to electromagnetic pollution, disruption to the ground from building and chaotic collective consciousnesses found in society.
Stepping into the energy of the jungle is like stepping into the warmest embrace; like a cloud of pastel light enveloping you into safety & security. The pure energy of the jungle is the essence inside of this medicine that I believe provides us with the healing we can receive from this sacred plant.
Sananga is a master energy cleanser; removing blockages, aligning chakras, dissolving attachments, and lifting layers off the multidimensional body. Sananga assists with physical, emotional, mental and energetic healing & balancing. Sananga is alive with the spirit of the Cosmic Mother. She has a spirit & intelligence of her own that will journey into and through the areas that your physical and energetic body need. Sananga releases stuck, stagnant energies and moves Source energy through the body. The indigenous people of the Amazon use Sananga “to lift panema – it can be thought of as bad luck, depression, laziness, sadness, or negative energetic influences, which attract difficulties and disease” (Queen of the Forest, 2021). Sananga can also clear anxiety, mental health disorders, attachment disorders, addictions, eating disorders, deep seeded anger and so much more. Sananga is extremely helpful for meditation and can assist in gaining a consistent meditation routine.
Sananga is used for both the physical and spiritual eyes, as it is administered into the eyes during the ceremony. The indigenous people use it to enhance night vision for hunting. Sananga is used to “treat and prevent glaucoma, cataracts, farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and blindness.” It can enhance visual and color perception as it stimulates the pineal gland, making the world appear more vivid. Sananga is known for opening the third eye, or spiritual vision, which can facilitate visualization during meditation, dreaming or spiritual healing work.
Before beginning the ceremony, connect deeply with the Spirit.
Set your intentions for what you would like this medicine to gift you. Prayer, connection to the Spirit, and setting intentions is an essential and powerful part of what makes a ceremony, as we invite the Divine energies to be with us on this journey.
During the Sananga ceremony, 1-2 drops will be administered into each eye. It is important to place an equal amount of the medicine in each eye because each side of the body will be energetically cleared and balanced. If one eye is served and the other is not, the energy in the body will be unbalanced.
The eye is a sensitive organ and when Sananga is first administered, there is an intense burning sensation. The tribes call Sananga “lightening in the eye” because of how intense it burns during the first few minutes of the ceremony. The intensity is an important part of the healing process as it breaks into the first layers, tests the flesh, challenges you to withstand and preserver through the first phase. This pain may also reflect the emotional state the individual comes with into the session. The longer you work with the medicine and allow it to clear blockages, clogs, stagnation and disorganization, the easier each session will be to tolerate. However, Sananga does have a Spirit of its own and will gift you with varying levels of intensity at its own choice. The intense burning is also important to the healing process because the magnitude of the intensity is reciprocal to the magnitude of the healing benefits from the session. Breathing is an important part of moving through the pain, allowing the medicine to integrate into the body, and releasing layers of emotional and spiritual impediments. During the session you will place a towel over your eyes and after the first few minutes, you may open the eyes to allow the medicine to continue to expand, as well as release tears and ease the pain.
After the burning sensation begins to subside, a calming euphoria replaces the painful experience and the meditative, balancing, re-alignment phase begins. During this period it is important to relax into a meditative state, becoming aware of bodily sensations, noticing the energy of the plant medicine working through the physical & energetic bodies. Try to notice any energetic releases during this phase and become aware of the subtle energies within the body.
After the session, the medicine will continue to move through you for the next few days or weeks. Everyone has a different response and sometimes various emotions will surface for continued release. Notice the subtle changes and give thanks to the Spirit & to the Earth.
It is important to continue to work with this plant medicine on a regular basis to receive the powerful transformations that it can can bring into your life.
Sananga is a spiritual medicine and a gift to the people of this Earth.
It is safe for people in recovery from addictions as it actually subtly removes addiction layers and does not trigger addictive responses. It is safe starting in adolescents & ages above that can handle the intensity of the medicine.
