8 Dimensions of Holistic Health

Spiritual

The spiritual aspect of health is one of the most important as everything in life essentially flows into existence from the spiritual world. I believe the progression of wellness to be like this: Spiritual —> Mental —> Emotional —> Physical —> physical progresses into the other areas of life. The spiritual dimension of health is connected to the way we perceive and interpret the world around us which then takes us into the Mental-Emotional dimension of health. Spiritual health is of utmost importance because in this challenging 3 dimensional paradigm we are currently living in, we live in a world that is rather disconnected from Source. This causes various difficulties, as I am sure you are familiar with the loneliness, hardship, sadness, chaos, dysfunction & the many challenges that this world can show us—many if not all of these issues due to everyone being disconnected from this Source of Eternal Sunshine, Security & Love. This is why we need a touch of spiritual assistance. We were not made to have to do this on our own without any backing from the Source of the Universe. Life is so scary because we don’t request spiritual assistance- when we do, things get better. Following spiritual principles is another sure way to live a healthy & prosperous life. Through living spiritual principles you will be gifted with the Promises. And of the life nourishing fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control. Spiritual help & guidance is available from the unseen spirit world which is always all around you. You just have to ask for the help, continue asking and you will receive it. As well, you can put your requests out into the Universe and they will be reflected back to you. Do good & good will always come back around in divine timing.

Emotional

Emotions sometimes feel as if they are completely out of our control, can you relate? Emotion is essentially - Energy in Motion - E-motion. Mental and emotional health are deeply interlaced as the thoughts you think are charged with energy that accumulate into emotion. As these thoughts turn into emotions they get energetically either filtered through the body or stored within the body. Emotions can be released in various ways including breathing, crying, art, dance, stretching, communication, harmonic flow of the chakras, sexual release, playing or listening to music, singing, creating, doing things we love, exercise, and many more. They may also and often times come out in unhealthy ways such as acting out behaviors, fighting, anger, aggression, jealousy, envy, greed, lust, sloth, overeating, over use of substances, acting out sexually, attention seeking, self seeking, ego behaviors, spending, impulsive behaviors, and the list goes on & on. When these same emotions are not released in either healthy or unhealthy ways they get stuck and cause heavy & difficult emotions when repressed, blocked, restricted, swallowed down, denied, swept under the rug etc. Again though, with improper storage of blocked or repressed emotions - it is highly likely that these emotions will come out in unhealthy behaviors.

What can we do about this? We need to get control of our thoughts & release emotions appropriately. First we must get control of our thoughts because those are the things that are charged, sending impulses down through our neuropathways, firing signals and when the charge is too extreme these thoughts/memory impulses cannot translate themselves properly in the brain’s emotional storage section, leaving them floating around waiting to be triggered. This is why people experience overwhelming emotions when triggered, why they see flashbacks of traumatic events, and disassociate their soul out of their body to escape the emotional pain. These intense emotions have too high of intensity in their energy-action potentials that travel through the neurons. This is why EMDR is such an effective treatment for traumatic stress disorders because it deactivates the memory impulse with bilateral stimulation to the brain. They can also be depotentiated by appropriate emotional release, be reprocessed & stored properly. Meditation & prayer are powerful tools to assist in decreasing intrusive thoughts & leading to a present & healthy mental-emotional balance.

Physical

When these emotions get pressed down into the body over and over again they are layering into increasing density. This increasing density then begins to cause energetic distortions to the harmonic functioning of the energetic physical body, creating symptoms such as pain, disease, and other manifestations of imbalance which are reflected through the body. Now this is stating that yes many diseases have their roots in health psychology, however, once a physical ailment - disease has begun - please see the appropriate healthcare professionals including Naturopathic Doctors or Medical Doctors. Health psychology is an important area of study within Holistic Health. Research and empirical evidence supports the psycho-somatic experience that intertwines with family disease, adverse childhood experiences, chronic stress, and much more which affects the trajectory of your health over the lifetime. It is imperative that our future health care integrates psychology into the integrative healthcare plan as this progression that I have explained above in the Spirituality section is so important to physical health as its basis primarily begins with both Spiritual & Mental-Emotional well-being.

Physical health includes getting adequate sleep, eating properly, harmonic body function, balance of vital nutrients, getting enough exercise & having strength to complete your life tasks. Eating light-high vibrational whole foods and home cooked meals is the healthiest way to nourish your cells. Self care is another key aspect of physical health and can look various different ways for each person. Stretching, keeping your body flexible, chakras spinning and in energetic flow is also a key part of physical, spiritual & emotional health and is a great first step in decreasing chronic pain or fatigue. Body, Mind & Spirit connection with eating healthy, keeping your energy clear & releasing emotions properly can have a powerful & transformative effect on your physical health no matter what dis-ease you are up against. The power of the Mind-Body-Spirit connection is beyond powerful if you believe. But this is the thing, you have to believe in it! :)

Social

Social health is another extremely important aspect of Holistic Health as we do not live in a vacuum—we continually coexist with others from birth to death. Healthy functioning relationships can be an area of challenge for almost everyone because of the dynamic nature of dealing with others. From infancy throughout the lifespan we are affected by our socialization with other humans. From the beginning stages of attachment to our parental figures, interacting with siblings and finding our place within these spheres can be an on going challenge. The person is continually affected by the outside world, as well as the functioning or dysfunctioning of the people around us. Interpersonal relationships inherently trigger and affect our mental and emotional spheres. Difficulties in relationships with family members, lovers, siblings, friends, co-workers, our community, our country, and our world have a direct impact on our health and psycho-social behaviors.

Once more, our place within society will have an extreme impact on health, prosperity, liberty, justice, social mobility, financial mobility and so much more. Socialization is extremely effectual as we modify ourselves to fit the status quo within the social subgroups that we belong to. An additional aspect of social health is the social support that you have to rely on. Limited social support can cause a severe deficit in the life, as you may not have healthy support systems to fall back on, financial support may be non-existent, friendships and companions may also be non-existent. All of these components directly affect your level of difficulty and well-being. Having a healthy support system can make or break you. We all need family, community and loving support from others. If you cannot find that within your family there is support to be found in this world. There are loving communities that will welcome you if you take the first steps to show up and be apart of their groups. These can include spiritual or religious groups, recovery groups, and many other groups of interest to you. We encourage you to find a healthy and supportive community to be apart of and break out of isolation.

Financial

Financial health is extremely important for health and well-being. It brings us a level of safety and security to meet our basic needs of water, food, sleep, shelter, healthcare and clothing. Without these basic needs being met we will have difficulty finding safety & security to move forward in our evolution & healing. We need financial mobility to take care of ourselves and become independent from reliance on others. When we are dependent on others we may suffer various levels of oppression or abuse. Or we may be financially taking advantage of people or society - not pulling our own weight - and harming people in the process. Now this is a very tricky area because social and economic realities prevent financial mobility for many. As well, trauma & untreated mental-emotional barriers stand in the way of progress. It can be a complicated and never ending struggle just to meet our most basic needs in this world. Limited social privilege, intertwined with the cyclonic effects of psycho-social blocks, family instability, low social mobility, low economic mobility, trauma, & addiction play an overwhelming and disabling effect on the life. Thankfully, in this country we are extremely lucky, regardless of the fact that many people do not appreciate this. We have the ability to move forward with the assistance of medicaid healthcare, school loans & grants, public assistance including food stamps, section-8 housing, services for women & children, and so many more areas of help our society offers. Many countries do not have anything like this. People are sleeping out on the streets with nothing—no healthcare, no fall back assistance from the government, not having clean water, living with many people in small spaces, no jobs, working 6-7 days a week, 12 hours a day for nearly nothing or living in extreme danger with no way out. Many of these people that I have met in my travels believe it or not are way happier than most Americans—spoiled and ungrateful - not acknowledging of the blessings & privilege that they have. I cannot tell you the devastating sights I’ve seen in other countries and the injustice they face. But if you saw them I am sure you would also be more grateful for the life you have been given and find more joy in the little things of everyday.

Remember to filter all your problems through this : is it a First - World - Problem?

—> Don’t Forget It —> To - Live —> A - Grateful - Happy & Joyful - Life.

YOU ARE BLESSED. Be Grateful for What You Have.

Environmental

Environmental health is another important area of health because our environment and the people within it can have a positive or negative affect on our well-being. One important thing is that it is hard to heal in the place that damaged you. It is certainly possible but can be triggering & difficult. It will likely continue to feed your psyche with unhealthy programming and imprints into your being. The cycles that you are trying to ascend and step out of are going to be continuously hooked into your energy field. It is recommended to create healthy boundaries from toxic family members, love relationships, friends, & any others that are perpetuating negative cycles & preventing you from transcending these barriers. Healthy supportive spaces are optimal for growth & healing. We wish to create more of these spaces in the future & we believe the New Earth will support these developments.

Occupational

Occupational health is another important area of health due to the fact that we spend a majority of our lives at work. Financial and occupational health is different in the fact that with financial health we basically need to have any work to financially provide for ourselves or our family members. Occupational health is different in that it assists us into passionate - purpose driven and thriving career paths. Optimal occupational health would allow us to pursue our life missions and feel as if we are providing the world with our gifts. I am an occupational therapy assistant and occupation does not just mean a job or career, it is anything that occupies your time. Occupational health can look like being apart of a purpose driven hobby, volunteering, doing any type of service work, social activism, participating in the activities that you love, spending time with your family, traveling, and so many other activities that are highly motivating and meaningful to you. Finding time for these things in your life is another important part of Holistic Health.

Intellectual

Intellectual health is the continued pursuit of things that interest you. Continuing to learn new things, the ability to educate and expand your mind towards the passions that interests you. Being open to new ideas, new opportunities to grow & develop & create. It can incorporate critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, goal setting, time management, stress management, study skills, mentoring others, self teaching or teaching others, self talk, self knowledge, rational approaches to life, reading skills, writing skills, and continued life long learning. This is the final area of health where you reach self actualization and integration of your life experiences both good & challenging to increase & benefit humanity & yourself !
